Tampa Bay Weather

Weekend cold front brings reprieve from Tampa Bay heat. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Cooler temperatures this weekend could fool any Tampa Bay Area resident into dreaming of a coming fall.

That, however, will be short lived as temperatures quickly rise again and humidity levels return to their seasonally soupy norms.

A small area of low pressure is making its way over Florida today, bringing with it a small cold front as high pressure over the Gulf of Mexico drops, creating the perfect conditions for a cooler, drier Friday and Saturday, forecasters said. Highs will only make it to the upper 80s and, aside for some lingering morning moisture, rain chances will be near nothing.

That cool feel will especially be felt overnight into Saturday morning, where lows will drop into the 60s - and even into the upper 50s north of Tampa Bay.

According to the National Weather Service, that will quickly change. By Sunday, high pressure will return to the area, as will temperatures heading into the 90s and seasonal afternoon storms and showers.

Forecaster Rodney Wynn said small reprieves like today's cold front can be expected every few weeks as hurricane season heads into the homestretch, but cautioned that people should not get complacent - there's still a chance for strong systems to develop.
