Girl power raises roof of Habitat home

An all-woman crew is chipping in to help build a Habitat for Humanity home for hospice care worker Altamease Mack and her 19-month-old daughter, Zo’e.

Habitat’s “Girl PowerHouse” build will draw on nearly 250 female volunteers over the next two months to finish the house on 34th Avenue North in St. Petersburg.

The house project is funded by Habitat’s philanthropic women’s group Hammers & Heels. Candidates for Habitat homes must invest 250 to 350 “sweat equity” hours in building their home.
