Witnesses lead Dade City police to driver in fatal hit-and-run crash

DADE CITY - Authorities arrested a man early Saturday after he struck a pedestrian on U.S. 301 and then fled, police said.

Renato Temich Quino, 32, was driving south on 301 in a 2005 Nissan Altima about 2:10 a.m. when he veered out of the right lane and onto the shoulder, striking 27-year-old Johnson Frye, Jr. as he walked south, Dade City police said. Frye, of Dade City, was killed in the crash.

Quino, who didn't have a valid license, kept driving but witnesses followed and led investigators to him, police said. He was arrested without incident at his home on the 12400 block of Dade City Avenue. The Nissan was impounded as evidence.

Quino is was taken to the Land O'Lakes Detention Center and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of crash involving property damage and driving without a valid license.
