LAND O’LAKES — A school resource officer at Sunlake High School is under investigation after he tried to take a female student into custody on Tuesday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
School officials asked the SRO remove the student from the cafeteria, deputies said. The officer, whose name was not released, then tried to place the student under arrest and she resisted, sheriff’s officials said.
Investigators within the Sheriff’s Office’s Professional Standards Unit are reviewing more than eight minutes of body camera video and statements collected from witnesses.
The student who resisted arrest faces misdemeanor charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office. That student’s identity was not released by deputies.
The SRO was set to work Wednesday, but not at Sunlake High School.
No other information about the incident was released Tuesday.
