Thomas Reffue, the 17-year-old Plant High School student who went missing more than a week ago, has returned home safe, police said Tuesday.
Police provided no details on where the teenager had been since he was last seen March 29 driving his mother’s car in New Tampa. His father, John Reffue, said at the time that his son needed “critical” medication for asthma and depression.
In a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon, Reffue said his son is in “stable condition overall” and receiving medical treatment. He was not injured.
“We are grateful beyond words for all of the support we have received from the Tampa Bay community,” Reffue wrote. “We ask for privacy at this time and thank each and every one of your for your prayers and concern.”
Last week, a $15,000 reward was offered for the teen’s safe return. It is unclear whether the reward will be collected by someone.
Reffue’s Facebook page and the Twitter hashtag #findthomasreffue went viral while Thomas was missing, drawing attention from fans of the teen’s favorite band Weezer and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
