Free 6-week diabetes workshop offered

Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point will host a diabetes self-management workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, April 9 to May 14, at the Rao Musunuru, MD Conference Center, 14100 Yosemite Drive. Subjects include working with your healthcare team, managing symptoms and blood sugar levels, using medication effectively, exercising safely and easily, handling depression, planning healthy meals, communicating about your health with family and friends, solving problems, and relaxing and managing stress. Native plant sale set for March 24

The Florida Native Plant Society, Nature Coast Chapter, will host a native plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24 at Harvester United Methodist Church, 2432 Collier Parkway. There will be a large selection of nursery-grown plants suitable for a Florida landscape, a plant profile for each plant purchased to help buyers put the plants in the right place, free literature and nursery information, native plant books for sale and experts on hand to answer questions. Carts will be available for plant transportation. There also be a Master Gardener information table for those with gardening questions. Animal Services offers reduced adoption fees

Pasco County Animal Services is offering "Mutt Madness" throughout March, which offers a reduced adoption fee of $30 for all dogs with the word "mix" in their description. The reduced fee excludes puppies younger than 6 months and dogs under 25 pounds. The shelter also hosts Feline Fridays, which offers a $5 adoption fee every Friday for all cats (no exclusions). All adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Animal Services is at 19640 Dogpatch Lane. Call (813) 929-1212.

Tail Wagon, Animal Services’ mobile adoption center, will be at the following locations:

• March 17: 10 a.m. to noon at Petco in Odessa. Also, from 1 to 3 p.m. there will be a "Kitten Shower" at the PCAS facility.

• March 24: 9 a.m. to noon at Super Hero Bike Day at Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson; also from noon to 2 p.m. at Hudson Regional Library.

Blessing set for March 25 at yacht club

Boaters and spectators are welcome to join the 44th annual Blessing of the Fleet March 25 at Gulf Harbors Yacht Club, 3926 Marine Parkway. Boaters are to bring their vessels to the basin of the Yacht Club by 12:30 p.m. for the captains meeting and, upon returning to their boats, monitor Channel 72 for instructions. Music and color guard will be provided by students from Gulf High School. Commodore Donna Long will begin the ceremony at 1:30 p.m. with an introduction of guests. The Sheriff’s Marine Patrol will lead the procession east along the channel and back to the Yacht Club Basin to receive the blessing from the Rev. Sebastian Earthdath of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Following the service, all boats will follow the Pasco County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol to the Gulf for the laying of wreaths or scattering of cremains. Yacht Club membership is not required to participate; the event is open to all. Those wishing to dedicate the remains of a loved one are asked to contact Fleet Capt. Ken Skaggs at (443) 600-9435. Festival to celebrate everything loquats

The fifth annual Florida Loquat Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24 at Frances Avenue Park, 5580 Frances Ave., New Port Richey. The festival celebrates the sweet-tart Florida fruit, offering samplings, preserves and other loquat products for sale. There will also be demonstrations on cooking and canning with loquats, and readings of loquat-related poetry and short prose, with cash prizes for top poems. Admission is free. Fine Arts Council to host Member Show

The Pasco Fine Arts Council will host its Member Show from March 27 to April 27 at the gallery at 4145 Fairford Drive. A reception will be April 6, where winners will be announced.
