More than 30 Riverview residents awaken to broken car windows

RIVERVIEW — Residents in more than 30 households woke up Monday morning to find their car windows had been smashed in.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said it is searching for a pair of males who may be connected to the incident.

The vehicles, which sustained broken windows and "other substantial damage," appear to have been attacked by blunt objects, like a baseball bat, and solid objects, like a brick, the agency said.

Residents in the South Cove subdivision reported the blitz of window smashing at 6:15 a.m. Monday on Misty Isle Lane and Evening Sunset Lane.

A sheriff’s vehicle was among the damaged cars. The total number of damaged vehicles rose to 33 on Monday afternoon, and deputies plan to pursue felony charges. The Sheriff’s Office dedicated a helicopter and police dogs to search the area for the two men.

The pair were described as male teens or young adults and were seen leaving one of the homes. They may have been driving a silver, four-door sedan, according to surveillance video taken by a nearby home’s security system.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
