In bowl games, it’s the SEC vs. the world

On the world-domination front, Auburn will try to give the SEC its eighth straight national title. Overall, there are 10 — count ’em, 10 — SEC teams in bowl games (even in a season when brand-name programs Florida and Tennessee were sub-.500). The SEC probably won’t register a perfect 10, but here’s what to expect:

Game Matchup Comment

Music City: Ole Miss (7-5) vs. Georgia Tech (7-5) Rebels have won five straight bowls (and nine of last 10)

Liberty: Mississippi State (6-6) vs. Rice (9-3) It had been 56 years since Rice’s last outright conference title

Chick-fil-A: Texas A&M (8-4) vs. Duke (10-3) Look for Johnny Football to finish with flourish

Gator: Georgia (8-4) vs. Nebraska (8-4) Injury has ended career of Dawgs QB Aaron Murray

Capital One: South Carolina (10-2) vs. Wisconsin (9-3) Badgers are just 2-5 all-time vs. SEC in bowls

Outback: LSU (9-3) vs. Iowa (8-4) Hawkeyes won only previous meeting on final-play Hail Mary in 2005

Sugar: Alabama (11-1) vs. Oklahoma (10-2) Proud Sooners are just 3-7-1 all-time vs. SEC in bowls

Cotton: Missouri (11-2) vs. Oklahoma State (10-2) Two years ago, this would’ve been a Big 12 league game

BBVA: Compass Vanderbilt (8-4) vs. Houston (8-4) Only seventh bowl in Vandy history (third straight, though)

BCS: Auburn (12-1) vs. Florida State (13-0) Schools separated by 200 miles will make 2,000-mile-plus trip to Pasadena
