William March: Pat Frank and Dee Williams get Tiger Bay honor; Myers files for Hillsborough commission seat

The Tampa Tiger Bay Club has announced its third annual lifetime achievement awards will go to Tampa Democratic icon and Clerk of Court Pat Frank, and Dee Williams, long-time president of the Sun City Center Republican Club.

Frank, a pioneer among women in local politics, served on the county school board, board of commissioners and in the state House and Senate before becoming court clerk.

Williams led the Republican club from 1992 until retiring in 2017. During that time it became a significant county political force, frequently attracting appearances by GOP candidates for high offices.

Meanwhile, the Tiger Bay Club also plans a forum for City Council Districts 1, 2 and 5 at its Jan. 18 meeting.

As expected, retired county health care official Gwen Myers has filed for the Hillsborough County Commission seat being vacated in 2020 by term-limited Commissioner Les Miller.

Myers may be the first of a crowded field for the open seat. Term-limited Tampa City Council member Frank Reddick has said he intends to file.

Myers, 64, worked for the county for 25 years before retiring at the end of 2013.
