Three takeaways from the Lightning’s win over the Flyers

  • Playing a 1 p.m. game on Saturday when you’ve already played three games during the week, including back-to-back home and away games Wednesday and Thursday, may not be ideal, but the Lightning better get acclimated to the early start. It could see a few afternoon weekend games in the postseason. It has another one this Saturday to continue the prep work.
  • Victor Hedman scored a fluky goal in the second period, but it was the product of a smart play. Seeing LW Alex Killorn near the net, Hedman flipped the puck from the right side of the goal. Killorn was too low to make a play. Didn’t matter. The puck struck Flyers C Valtteri Filppula and deflected into the net. Good things sometimes happen when you send the puck on the net.
  • Rookie C Yanni Gourde has 50 points this season. What an addition he has been. He has given the Lightning goals (22) and grit, as witnessed by his willingness to mix it up with opposing players. His roughing penalty at the end of the first period for his tussle with Andrew MacDonald might have helped his teammates shake off some of their first-period blahs.
