Youths can punt, pass and kick their way to awards

PLANT CITY All area youths ages 6-15 will have an opportunity to show off their football skills Sept. 28 at the local NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition.

This is the 20th year that the Plant City Recreation & Parks Department and the Plant City Optimist Club have partnered to host the competition.

Youths will compete by gender in age groups that include 6- and 7-year-olds, 8- and 9-year-olds, 10- and 11-year-olds, 12- and 13-year-olds and 14- and 15-year-olds.

There is no entry fee and the top finisher in each age group advances to the sectional competition within the Tampa Bay region.

Players need to bring a copy of proof of age to attach to their registration form (birth certificate or religious document such as a baptismal record) and a parent to sign the registration form.

Competitors may only wear sneakers – no cleats or bare feet are allowed.

Competition is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex, 2402 E. Cherry St. Awards will be handed out at 11 a.m.

Participants may register at the sports complex upon arrival the day of the event.
