August in Florida means morning sunshine and afternoon thunderstorms, and today will be no different.
A repeat of Tuesday night’s torrential downpours is possible again today as storms build in the east and intensify as they move west toward the coast, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
Highs will reach 91 under sunny skies, with a few popup showers beginning around noon but increasing as the storms drift west.
Those storms could become intense, much like Tuesday, when a half-inch of rain was recorded in the Tampa Bay area with some areas seeing more, according to the National Weather Service.
They also could bring heavy downpours, localized street flooding and dangerous lightning.
Expect much more of the same through the week, Spann said.
