A cold front that is stalling over north Florida is providing higher than average moisture to the Tampa Bay area, forecasters said.
Rain chances climbed to 60 percent today as scattered thunderstorms began pounding Hillsborough and coastal Pinellas counties this morning, said News Channel 8 meteorologist Megan Hatton.
The weather was not severe, but it was providing a lot of rain and lightning in the area, Hatton said.
The storms should taper off in the afternoon and early evening, Hatton said. However, Sunday sees much of the same with storms moving in off the coast early, she said.
Highs continue to hover in the lower 90s with steamy temperatures that feel more like 100 degrees at times.
