Searing heat as temps climb above normal in Tampa area

A normally hot August day in Florida will be even more scorching today as temperatures climb above normal under blazing sunny skies.

A hot morning, with temperatures already reaching the low-80s in some areas, will lead to an oppressive afternoon as highs today will reach 93 with a heat index approaching 105, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.

Skies will be clear, with just a minimal rain chance, and lows will only fall into the mid- to upper-70s.

Rain chances climb slightly on Tuesday, with temperatures still remaining above normal.
