Summer-like conditions will take over around the Tampa Bay area today, ahead of tropical moisture that could make for a wet weekend.
Highs today will reach 90 under mostly sunny skies, with a 30 percent chance of afternoon storms primarily to the south, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
Lows tonight will drop to the low-70s.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor an area of low pressure that is expected to cross the Yucatan peninsula and head north into the Gulf of Mexico tonight or Thursday.
Forecasters say it has a 50 percent chance of developing into a tropical system in the next 2-3 days, and forecast models move the system onshore in the Florida panhandle on Friday night.
Although the Tampa Bay area is not currently under any warnings, forecasters say tides could run one foot above normal on Friday, with minor to moderate rip currents on Friday and Saturday.
That system will provide extra moisture in the Tampa area, increasing rain chances beginning Thursday.
