A day after severe thunderstorms and lightning caused a delay during the Tampa Bay Bucs’ game Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, the Tampa Bay area could be in for more of the same.

Sunday’s heavy rains prompted the National Weather Service to issue a river flood warning for the Manatee River in Myakka and the Little Manatee River at Wimauma.

The water level is expected to recede by midweek, forecasters said.

Easterly winds will cause storms, developing inland this afternoon, to drift toward the coast by tonight, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.

There is a 50 percent chance of rain today, with above-average highs climbing to the low-90s.

Skies will clear tonight, with lows in the low- to mid-70s.

Rain chances remain at 50 percent Tuesday before easing by midweek.
