The Tampa Bay area is in for a frosty morning and more chilly temperatures leading up to the Gasparilla weekend.
Northern areas are under a hard freeze warning, and much of region is under a freeze warning until 9 a.m. — with coastal areas just under a frost advisory — as temperatures hover around freezing, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
Afternoon highs will warm to 62, which is still below average, but another cold front will approach tonight, dropping lows back into the mid- to upper-30s, and below freezing to the north.
Highs on Friday again will only reach the mid-50s.
Early Gasparilla parade-goers on Saturday will need jackets in the morning, with temperatures below 40 at 8 a.m. But the afternoon will be comfortable, with temperatures warming to the mid-60s leading to a cool night.
