Cold weather shelters open in Tampa area

A cold front ushering in the coldest weather of the season prompted shelters to open Monday night and probably Tuesday night throughout West Central Florida.

Shelters open in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties about 6 p.m., though some open earlier. Here’s a list of shelters:

PINELLAS COUNTY

Clearwater (primary shelter):

Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 110 S. Ft. Harrison Ave. (727) 442-3677

Clearwater (backup shelter):

St Cecelia Catholic Church, 820 Jasmine Way. (727) 447-3494

Pinellas Park:

Boys & Girls Club of the Suncoast, 7790 61st St. N. (727) 574-5437

St. Petersburg:

Northwest Presbyterian Church, 6330 54th Ave. N. (727) 544-4551

Salvation Army, 1400 Fourth St. S. (727) 822-4954

The Turning Point, 1810 Fifth Ave. N. (727) 823-7811

Tarpon Springs:

St Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 812 E. Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs.

Families with children can call (727) 528-5762 or (727) 893-7627 to make arrangements to stay in a motel.

PASCO COUNTY

Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Drive, New Port Richey (no families), (727) 597-0428

The Holy Ground Shelter, 8835 Denton Ave., Hudson (families accepted).

Pasco County Transportation buses provide service to cold weather shelters via routes 14, 21, 30 free of charge. Riders should tell the driver when boarding they are en route to a cold weather shelter.

Those in need of a shelter in the eastern portion of the county should call (813) 810-8670.

Windmoor Healthcare is offering free cab rides to people needing transportation to a in Pasco. Call Windmoor at (727) 548-5733.

United Way is providing hotel sheltering for families with children through Metropolitan Ministries.

Anyone needing a place to stay in west Pasco, call Dan Campbell at (727) 385-4170.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY
