Clear skies and a warm, sunny day will greet Hillsborough County students returning to school today, although typical afternoon thunderstorms could make for a wet ride home.
After a muggy start, highs will reach 91 today before the storms once again begin to build inland this afternoon, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
Those storms will begin as isolated showers but will intensify as they move toward the coast, providing the heaviest rain closer to the coast later this afternoon into tonight.
Some areas saw severe thunderstorms on Monday night, including some reports of damage from downed trees.
Those storms also could produce heavy downpours and dangerous lightning strikes.
The rain will subside later tonight, but similar conditions will remain in effect through the work week.
