Teen shot after event at Winter Haven Garden Center

Winter Haven Police are investigating an early morning shooting that left a 17-year-old boy in serious condition.

At approximately 1:18 this morning, officers were approaching the Winter Haven Garden Center at 715 3rd St. NW, to disburse a large crowd that had gathered outside after an event.

As officers approached the crowd, gunshots were fired.

Terrance Tyrone Morton, 17, of Haines City was struck in the upper body while standing in the middle of a large crowd of people in the parking lot of the Winter Haven Senior Center, directly across the street from the Garden Center.

Morton was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where police said he is listed in serious, but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone who has information about this shooting to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-8477. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
