Raider fans can enjoy more than football at Plant City High School's home games this season.

Supporters of the team are planning to hold tailgate celebrations at the school practice field starting at 5 p.m., which is 2.5 hours before kickoff. The festivities will include games, music, bounce houses and more.

Ben Dawson, father of Raider outside linebacker Sawyer Dawson, said he got the idea after driving through rural Georgia, where small towns make Friday night football the cause for celebration.

“They basically shut the town down for the game. I thought, 'why can't we do something like that in Plant City,''' he said.

There will be no admission fee although there is a charge for games and food will be sold. Fans are welcome to bring their own food, including their own grills.

There is a $2 per vehicle parking fee and fans who attend the 7:30 p.m. game pay $7 per ticket.

The first tailgate will be 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 vs. Wharton.

Other tailgate parties and home games include: Sept. 20, vs. Durant; Oct. 11, vs. Tampa Bay Tech; Oct. 25, vs. Strawberry Crest; and Nov. 8, vs. Gaither.
