SUN CITY CENTER – After more than 50 years, Sun City Center Plaza is getting a face lift.
Built in 1960 and extended in 1973, the plaza was purchased in 2000 by Sun City LLC. Stavins and Axelrod Properties of Washington, D.C., oversees its financial interests and is spearheading the project.
“The 54-year-old shopping center is conveniently located to golf cart paths,” said Stavins Vice President Robin Matthews. “We plan to continue servicing Sun City Center for years to come. We want to create continuity (with Community Association upgrades) and give the plaza a fresh new look,”
The project has a budget of more than $500,000, Stavins said. It includes repairs; replacing gutters and canopies; raising and replacing the facades; new colors and some cosmetic work. Lighting will be upgraded, as needed, and all of the sidewalks will be coated with a decorative, non-skid product. Aged metal or stucco surfaces will be replaced or re-coated.
Stavins and Axelrod Properties is working closely with RMC Property Group, the plaza’s property managers, located in Tampa. The project is expected to be completed by late August.
