Join the cruise

Members of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church of Sun City Center, 1239 Del Webb Blvd. W., are excited about a cruise they’re taking and want the public to join them.

Departure is from Tampa on Nov. 30 for one week on the Carnival Pride. The ship will visit Costa Maya, Belize, Mahogany Bay and Grand Cayman.

Participants will have the opportunity to begin their two days at sea with morning worship and Bible study. The Rev. Mark Salmon will lead both. The experience is optional. You can sleep in or play, if you wish.

Joann Cunningham of AAA is handling all bookings, so give her a call at (813) 633-4880 to get more information, place a deposit or ask insurance questions. The current rates for reserved, inside cabin rooms are $606.67 per person, including taxes and fees, and $813.67 for a balcony cabin. Other rooms are available, and Cunningham can provide their prices.

Make a difference

If you’re looking for a part-time job, Hillsborough County is hiring school crossing guards. Applicants must be in good physical condition, have no criminal history and be able to safely guide school-age children through a crosswalk.

The job includes two shifts per day – 7:10 to 8:25 a.m. and 2 to 2:45 p.m.

You must furnish your own attire – a white shirt, black pants and black shoes. The county provides a hat, stop sign, traffic vest and a whistle.

Currently, positions are available at Doby, Apollo Beach, Gibsonton and FishHawk elementary schools. The pay is $10.74 per hour.

For information, call Community Service Officer Danny Fassett at (813) 247-8195.

Macy’s to support Good Samaritan Mission

Macy’s and Good Samaritan Mission of Wimauma invite customers to participate in Macy’s ninth annual, national Shop For A Cause charity event on Aug. 23. Created in 2006, the special one-day-only shopping event supports the fundraising efforts of local charities and has helped raise more than $44 million across the country. Local customers can participate in this year’s event by purchasing shopping passes from Good Samaritan Mission now.

The passes sell for $5 each, and the mission gets to keep 100 percent of each one it sells. The pass entitles customers to a day of “spectacular” discounts, entertainment and special events at Macy’s. Special discounts will be offered on most regular, sale and clearance purchases all day. Some exclusions may apply.

Help our vets

The Vietnam Veterans of America are collecting hygiene items, old cell phones and household furniture to be used in setting up apartments for homeless veterans. Used cars in reasonably good condition are also being sought to give to qualified veterans in need. The donations are tax-deductible.

Pick-up is available. Call Dave Weber at (813) 633-6614.

Volunteers needed

The Sun City Center Area Chamber is looking for volunteers to staff its Welcome Center to assist visitors with tourism brochures, local information and assistance with copying and faxing. The ability to google is required. Shifts are 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m., any weekday.
