Sun City Center chamber banquet set for Friday

Published:   |   Updated: January 9, 2014 at 10:49 AM

For the third year, the Sun City Center Chamber of Commerce is having its Annual Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet. It'll be this Friday night at the Sunset Grille at The Resort & Club at Little Harbor.

This is an important event for a number of reasons, not the least of which it's a wonderful, festive, uplifting way to start the year.

But there are other reasons. First and foremost is to thank and acknowledge all the hard work of our many members and volunteers who made 2013 so successful. Whether they coordinated a golf tournament or answered the phones, many pitched in and donated time and effort. It will not go unnoticed.

The second reason is to officially install our board members and executive committee. When a business person agrees to step up to the plate and serve a three-year term as a community leader, he or she should be acknowledged and dutifully installed into the position. Leading the chamber is not a commitment to be taken lightly, and these new directors will certainly earn their stripes in the next few years.

We also have outgoing board members to acknowledge as they roll off their terms and go back to “civilian” life. They have given the chamber guidance and input, time and commitment, years of loyalty and the wisdom of their experience. I can't thank them enough, but I can at least acknowledge their contribution in front of the membership and in this column.

The board will be without Charlotte Clark of American Momentum Bank for the first time in 18 years. But she promises to be “on call” if we need to consult with her. Robyn Payant of Payant Financial also opted not to run again and we thank her for her contributions.

Once again we'll name our Frank King Volunteer of the Year and Ambassador of the Year. Who will win? There are so many wonderful candidates!

We will also honor our Business of the Year and Community Leader of the Year to pay tribute to those who serve this community with integrity, empathy and a desire to make Sun City Center a better place.

The banquet is open to the public. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple.

If you'd like to have a great meal, meet some wonderful business people and help us celebrate our successes and ring in a great 2014, call us at (813) 634-5111 and reserve your space today.

As always, when you're looking for a lawyer, tailor or candlestick maker, doctor, plumber or wallpaper hanger, save yourself time and get the right kind by calling us here at your chamber. Shopping local makes cents.

Dana Dittmar is the executive director of the Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce.
