SUN CITY CENTER - Break out your bobby socks, saddle shoes and Brylcreem for a trip back in time with the Oldies But Goodies Dance Club of Sun City Center.

"Our club is here to provide a quality evening of entertainment each month for rock 'n rollers of all ages," said Barb Gingrich, president. "All our dances are casual, so find that poodle skirt, grow back those sideburns and come to a dance dedicated to old-time music."

The club was formed in 1999 by a group of Sun City Center residents who were anxious to host events featuring a casual atmosphere and music from the 1950s through the 1970s. By the end of its first year, it had 142 members.

Membership is open to residents of Sun City Center, Kings Point and Freedom Plaza. The $25 annual dues include admission to monthly dances at Community Hall, 1910 Pebble Beach Blvd. S. on Sundays from 7 to 10 p.m. Nonmembers may attend for $5 per dance, and singles are always welcome.

There is live music at every dance, and the songs and entertainers vary each month.

"We hire duos as well as some four- and five-piece bands," said Gingrich. "Our music is primarily rock 'n roll, but most entertainers include other types of dance music, as well. We try to use a different group for each dance, but some favorites are hired more than once, including The Dukes, Flashback and the Reflections."

Mara Attles and her husband, Stephen, look forward each month to the next dance where they can enjoy the many types of bands and music.

"It's a club where we not only make new friends but also get to spend time with old friends dancing and socializing," she said.
