Standard Pacific adds to customer service arsenal

Standard Pacific Homes has taken note of the recent trend of home buyers using the Internet in their search for a house. That's why its Tampa Bay division recently added an online consultant to help those prospective customers.

"Internet users have high expectations for quick response time when they send a request for information," says Frank Messina, vice president of sales and marketing. "We didn't want to lose any of them, so we committed to dedicating a full-time online consultant to be available to answer questions about the Tampa area, the different homes we offer and the neighborhoods where we build."

After an exhaustive search, Standard Pacific says it chose one of its employees who possessed a mix of experience in information technology and sales as well as a broad and deep knowledge of the company and the homes it builds.

Having a well-rounded understanding of the company and the Tampa market is no small feat. Standard Pacific Homes offers a variety of homes in 21 different neighborhoods in the Tampa Bay area, from town homes priced from the $130,000s to single-family homes priced from the $150,000s to $370,000s.

In addition to the product knowledge the online consultant possessed, Messina says the employee took the initiative to add to that knowledge prior to beginning her new post.

"Once she got the job, our online consultant drove to every single neighborhood to meet with the on-site sales representative and learn about what was unique at every community," Messina says.

"She walked through all of the model homes and put together a comprehensive database, including details such as features in the homes, available athletic facilities in the neighborhood, local schools, nearby shopping and commuting distance to Tampa. Just about anything anybody wants to know, she can tell them.

"This really helps customers narrow down their search and is a great resource for real estate professionals who may be bringing clients to several Standard Pacific Homes communities."

This level of information also can be critical for people relocating to Tampa. If a potential buyer is only able to be in town for a weekend, he wants to optimize that time by visiting homes and neighborhoods that best fit his criteria, Messina says.

"By being available to quickly communicate with Internet users through e-mail or by telephone, our online consultant helps simplify the process of narrowing down which home and community best meets the customer's needs," Messina says.
