TAMPA - University of South Florida All-American DE George Selvie did not practice Monday and his status for Thursday's game with Pittsburgh remains unknown.Published: September 30, 2008
Selvie injured his ankle against Florida International Sept. 20 and did not play last week at N.C. State. He hasn't practiced in team drills for the past two weeks.
"George is going to do just limited stuff and then see more how he feels today and see what he can move around and do," USF coach Jim Leavitt said. "We're getting the other guys ready."
DT Terrell McClain (ankle), who didn't play against N.C. State, also practiced sparingly. His status for Thursday is unknown. "He's doing a little bit more," Leavitt said.
Theo Wilson, a backup cornerback and punt returner, will miss Thursday's game because of a knee injury suffered at N.C. State. Leavitt said it would be "a minor miracle" for Wilson to return Oct. 18 against Syracuse, but returning Oct. 25 at Louisville would be more realistic.
GROTHE HONORED: QB Matt Grothe was named the Big East's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Grothe, who threw for 259 yards, said his offensive line has helped tremendously.
"They've been outstanding, they're doing a really good job," Grothe said. "They're giving me plenty of time back there to throw and opening holes for the running game. They only get better each and every week, that's the scary thing."
ODDS AND ENDS: Several bowl representatives have accepted invitations from USF AD Doug Woolard to attend the USF-Pitt contest. ... Scouts from 13 NFL teams are scheduled to attend Thursday's game.
