TAMPA - Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Attinella stopped three of four tries in the shootout to lift the University of South Florida men's soccer team to a shootout victory Saturday night against UNC Greensboro and into the Elite 8 round of the NCAA tourney.

USF (16-4-2) won the shootout 3-1 after the teams played to a 1-1 tie through two OTs.

Attinella stopped the first two Spartans (10-12-2) penalty kicks, while Joris Claessens and Javed Mohammed buried the first two tries for USF.

Both teams scored during the third round, and the pressure was on the Spartans to extend play with the opening kick of the fourth round.

Attinella did not let that happen as he dove, fully extended to his left to stone junior E.J. O'Keefe.

Jordan Seabrook (USF) and Nirav Kadam (UNCG) scored the goals in regulation.

USF awaits the winner of the Dartmouth-Wake Forest third-round game, set for today at 1 p.m. USF will play either Dec. 5, 6 or 7. The Bulls would host Dartmouth but travel to Wake Forest.
