CHICAGO - Umpire Jerry Crawford was released after spending a night in a hospital because of a bad reaction to medicine.

Crawford, the plate umpire and crew chief, left Tuesday's game against Milwaukee before the top of the third inning and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

DIAMONDBACKS: Max Scherzer wasted no time in earning a spot in rotation.

The hard-throwing right-hander will start Monday when Arizona is home against the Philadelphia Phillies, Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said.

Scherzer, 23, made his major-league debut against Houston on Tuesday night, retiring all 13 batters he faced, seven by strikeout. His fastball was consistently in the 95-97 mph range.
