WESLEY CHAPEL - According to Wesley Chapel girls basketball coach Warren Jones, this is the first time in the state five seniors from the same basketball team signed basketball scholarships at once. Ashley Carey, Desiree Vizcaino, Jeani Ducos and Cree McIver signed letters-of-intent to play at Hillsborough Community College and Caitlin Deboer signed a letter-of-intent to play at Montreat College in North Carolina.
"This is one of the reasons you coach. Getting into it, this is one of the things I was looking forward to. Last year we had one and this year we have five. I don't know what to do with myself. That's what they are in school for. All five girls are very serious about their academics. I expect them to go on to bigger and better things. This is a good start for them, having a free education."
LOL BASKETBALL: The Gators' Jerome Harrison will sign a letter-of-intent to play at Brevard Community College. Harrison averaged 18.6 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game, and had a field-goal percentage of 43.
Harrison is considered a partial qualifier, which means he only has to play one season of junior college basketball before he can move on to a Division I or II program.
"I think it speaks volumes for the kid," Land O' Lakes coach Dave Puhalski said. "He didn't have a whole lot of things growing up and basketball was his only way out, so it's coming to fruition. He's got a way out and now he's got a chance to go on."
