BOSTON -- A couple of off-day notes:

♦ 2B Ben Zobrist (dislocated left thumb) will rejoin the team Friday in Boston.

Zobrist put his thumb to the test Wednesday when he played nine innings for Class A Charlotte and was 1-for-4 with a walk. The thumb responded well. As a result, Zobrist passed on playing tonight for the Stone Crabs and flew to Boston.

To make room for Zobrist, INF Cole Figueroa was optioned this afternoon to Triple A Durham.

Figueroa hit .250 during his two weeks with the team. He drove in the winning run last Friday in a 1-0 walk-off win against the Red Sox and scored the winning run the following night when the Rays won again in walk-off fashion in 15 innings.

♦ Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said this afternoon that the training staff will know more tomorrow about Jose Molina’s condition but “all indications are good.”

Molina left Wednesday’s game with the Blue Jays in the ninth inning after taking a foul tip off his face mask. Molina said after the game that he was fine, and Rays manager Joe Maddon said he wasn’t concerned.
