CLEVELAND -

It is high and it is deep …

Rays designated hitter Luke Scott ended his epic hitless streak tonight with a two-run home run to right-center field in the fifth inning to give the Rays a 6-2 lead against the Indians.

Scott had extended his team record slump to 0-for-41 with a pair of strikeouts in his first two at-bats. He struck for the second time by swinging at what should have been ball four as it skipped past him.

Scott was nearing the major league mark of 0-for-47, set by Eugenio Velez across the 2010-2011 seasons.

With B.J. Upton on first base and no one out in the fifth, Scott hit a fly ball that just cleared the fence for his first hit since June 1. It was his 10th home run of the season. He now leads the team with 38 RBI.

The home run came against Indians right-hander Justin Masterson. Scott entered the game with seven hits in 16 career at-bats against Masterson for a .438 average.
