Rays Triple Play: Notes from camp

Published:

A good visit

Rays LHP Cesar Ramos was told Saturday he was going back to the bullpen during a meeting with executive VP of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and pitching coach Jim Hickey.

“I think that’s the first time I’ve been in the principal’s office and not had to pack my bag and go to the (minor-league) locker room or go to Durham,” Ramos said. “Every time I’ve been in there with Andrew and Hickey it was to go to Durham. It’s kind of nice to stay in the (Rays) locker room.”

Replay? Anyone?

Sunday was the fifth time this spring a Rays game was televised, meaning it was the fifth opportunity for Rays manager Joe Maddon to ask for a review of an umpire’s call. As he did during the first four games, Maddon did not see any calls worthy of a review.

“That just indicates the umpires get it right most of the time,” Maddon said.

You shouldn’t have

RHP Joel Peralta turned 38 Sunday. RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo was asked if he gave his fellow countryman a present.

“A cane,” Oviedo said.
