Rays Triple Play: Notes from camp

Published:

Did you know?

The Rays won five of their final six games against the Yankees last season, outscoring New York 32-10.

Opening Day

Colonel Scott V. DeThomas, Commander, 6th Air Mobility Wing, MacDill Air Force Base, will throw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Rays’ season-opening game against Toronto at Tropicana Field on March 31. Game time is 4:10 p.m.

As Commander, DeThomas is responsible for more than $2.8 billion in base property and capital assets, and controls an annual budget exceeding $249 million. He is a native of Rhode Island and received his commission through the Air Force Academy.

Quote of the day

“He’s such a solid fielder and his bat was clutch. For what the Rays signed him for (three years, $21 million) and what he’s capable of doing, I think they got a steal.’’ — Rays 2B Ben Zobrist, on the return of 1B James Loney
