Tampa Bay Rays minor league pitcher Steve Geltz was suspended Monday for 50 games for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Geltz, who is on the roster of the Triple-A Durham Bulls of the International League, is effective immediately.

Geltz, a right-hander acquired last season from the Los Angeles Angels for pitcher Dane De La Rosa, was caught using a “drug of abuse,” according the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball.

Geltz is the 15th member of the Rays' minor-league system to be suspended since the start of the 2012 season for testing positive for a drug of abuse or a performance-enhancing drug.
