ST. PETERSBURG Rays left-hander Matt Moore was added to the American League All-Star Team this afternoon, replacing Ranger Yu Darvish, who is on the disabled list with a mild upper back strain.
Moore, who earned his 13th win of the season today, joins Ben Zobrist and head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield as the Rays representatives for Tuesday's game at Citi Field in New York.
Moore, 13-3, was informed of his selection after today's 4-3 win against the Twins at Tropicana Field.
This is the first All-Star Game selection for Moore, 24, who nearly pitched his way on the squad in style.
Moore retired the first 11 batters he faced and did not allow a hit until Brian Dozier's two-out double in the sixth inning. Moore went 6 1/3 innings, allowed three hits, three runs and struck out 10.
