Tampa Bay Rays infielder Tim Beckham had successful surgery Tuesday to repair the torn ACL in his right knee. He is expected to miss six to eight months.
Beckham tore the ACL while doing ladder agility drills earlier this month.
The surgery was performed in Pensacola by Dr. James Andrews.
Beckham, the first overall pick in the 2008 draft, made his major league debut in September. He appeared in five games for the Rays.
The Rays also announced Wednesday that pitcher Ryne Stanek, selected in the first round of the 2013 draft, had surgery Tuesday to repair his right hip labrum. Stanek is expected to return to the mound by mid-season.
