FIRST JOB: "I was a fence installer in the summer of my high school years. I never lifted weights, but my gosh, you're up at the crack of dawn to dig those post holes. You talk about physical work. And the posts had to be 10 feet apart - not 11 - or it wasn't right. I'd do that all day, then play (baseball) all night. Ah, youth.''
FIRST CAR: 1952 Chevrolet - "My father paid $25 for it. The brakes went out on me several times.''
CRAZIEST THING YOU DID IN COLLEGE: "We kidnapped Tom Goodwin and put him in the trunk of my 1965 Thunderbird for this fraternity prank. So, we drive from Pennsylvania to Rockland County (N.Y.). We're driving through these mountains, through a ski resort, it's snowing, the car's about to go off the side of the road. So many bad things could've happened. The weather was horrendous. What were we thinking? Of course, Tommy was fine. The next day, we were at Madison Square Garden to watch Lafayette play Colgate.''
SOMEONE IN HISTORY YOU'D LOVE TO MEET: Branch Rickey, Mark Twain, James Michener, Abraham Lincoln - "In that order.''
IF YOU WEREN'T A COACH, WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING: "I'd be running a super resort somewhere in the Caribbean. The food and hospitality industries have really intrigued me.''
Favorite inspirational quote: "Discipline yourself so others won't have to.'' - John Wooden. "I keep coming back to that one.''
