BALTIMORE – Evan Longoria has been playing through a sore right forearm for about week, which is why he is the DH tonight for the second straight game against the Orioles.
“I don’t think it’s a cause for concern,” Longoria said.
Longoria said he has not had an MRI on the arm, nor does he expect to have one. He said it only hurts when he throws. He said he could play tonight if it was imperative that he be at third base. He also said he expects to return to the field Wednesday night.
In other news, the C Ryan Hanigan was activated from the disabled list and C Curt Casali was optioned to Class A Charlotte, which makes him eligible to return to the Rays on Sept. 1 when roster expand because the Stone Crabs reason ends Sunday.
The Rays will try to rebound from Monday’s 9-1 pounding tonight behind Alex Cobb.
They begin the night 11 games behind the first-place Orioles in the AL East and 7 ½ games behind the Mariners, who hold the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
Here are the lineups:
Cobb RHP (9-6, 3.01)
Chen LHP (13-4, 3.76)
