Longo's girlfriend, child doing well
Jaime Edmondson, the girlfriend of Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, gave birth to their first child Wednesday night.
The new parents had yet to announce the news, but Rays manager Joe Maddon said he texted Longoria on Wednesday night to see if everything was well.
"He told me everything was great," Maddon said.
The couple had a girl, but Maddon said he did not know her name.
Longoria did not attend Thursday's workout, and Maddon said he wasn't sure when Longoria would return to the team.
"Just wanted to know that he was well, obviously, that she was well and the baby was well and everything was fine," Maddon said. "That's all I wrote. I didn't say when he needed to be back. I didn't ask him when he will be back. I just told him take care of what he has to do and let us know. He told me everything was great. The baby was great. Jaime was great. Everything went well. That's what I got."
The baby was due April 1, but on the advice of her doctor, Edmondson had the labor induced Wednesday.
