BOSTON — The Tampa Bay Rays set their 25-man roster this morning for the best-of-five American League Division Series that begins this afternoon against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
There were no surprises other than they kept all five members of the pitching rotation — including Jeremy Hellickson.
Hellickson has struggled this season and has only one win in his last eight decisions as a starter, and there ha d been speculation he would be left off the roster for the ALDS.
Manager Joe Maddon may name his fourth starter before today’s game – or not. Hellickson or Chris Archer would be the candidates, although the Rays might hold off deciding until after Game 2.
Archer and Hellickson would be candidates to serve as long men out of the bullpen during the two games in Boston.
Matt Moore will start Game 1 today, followed by David Price for Game 2 on Saturday and Alex Cobb in Game 3 on Monday.
Here is the roster:
PITCHERS (11) - David Price, Matt Moore, Alex Cobb, Jeremy Hellickson, Chris Archer, Jake McGee, Joel Peralta, Alex Torres, Wes Wright, Jamey Wright, Fernando Rodney
