ZEPHYRHILLS — Jaylen Pickett ran for 146 yards and a score on 12 carries, leading Zephyrhills (4-1, 1-1) to a Class 5A-District 6 win over Weeki Wachee on homecoming night.
The Bulldogs ran all over the Hornets (1-4, 0-2), amassing 324 rushing yards in the first half and building a 42-0 lead at the break.
“I challenged my offensive line all week, because it seems like we have always been one block away from taking it the distance. We blocked to the echo of the whistle tonight,” Zephyrhills coach Reggie Roberts said, “The offensive line did a great job.”
Devon Brockington scored three touchdowns and Jordan Roberts scored on a 72-yard run, while Pickett finished the opening half with 136 yards on 10 carries.
Near the end of the first half, Weeki Wachee quarterback Marcus Allen suffered an injury that required him to be taken off the field in a stretcher and taken to Florida Hospital. Allen, regarded as one of Hernando County’s best players, had 13 carries for 102 yards before the injury.
Allen was replaced by David Tinch, who scored on a 6-yard run with 2:06 left in the contest to avoid the shutout.
