Wesley Chapel High found its new head football coach Monday, as Wiregrass Ranch assistant Tico Hernandez accepted the position.

Hernandez becomes the third coach in program history and takes over for Ben Alford, who resigned last month to accept a non-football job in Iowa near his wife's family.

This past season, Wesley Chapel was 3-7. However, the team returns many players, including starting quarterback Ty Tanner, linebacker Nalu Fraticelli and safety Josias Vizcano.

The hire fills another football coach vacancy in Pasco County. Last week, Wiregrass Ranch promoted offensive coordinator Mike Lawrence to replace Jeremy Shobe.

Gulf is still without a head coach.
