Bloomingdale (18-11) at Palm Harbor (19-8): Junior outside hitter Karissa Rhoades finished with 20 kills and 17 digs to lead Bloomingdale in a sweep of Bradenton Manatee in the quarterfinals. AnnaMarie Huy led Palm Harbor with 15 kills and six blocks, while Naomi Mack had 13 kills and six blocks in a 3-1 win over Plant. Ameije Ismaili led the Hurricanes’ defensive effort with 22 digs
Steinbrenner (21-3) at Durant (28-0): Steinbrenner’s Rachel Mathison had a match-high 19 kills and 14 digs, while Lauren Heldt and Avery Bradshaw each added eight kills in a 3-0 win over Plant City in the quarterfinals. Lexi Thompson had a match-high 13 kills in Durant’s win over Wiregrass Ranch. The Cougars defeated Steinbrenner earlier this season at the HCC Lady Hawk Invitational, winning 3-2.
Bradenton Bayshore at Robinson (12-13): Bayshore defeated Middleton 3-0 in the quarterfinals, 25-8, 25-16, 25-5. This is the first region appearance since 1987 for Bayshore. Lauren Wheatley had a match-high nine kills and three blocks for Robinson against Bradenton Southeast in the quarterfinal win, while setter Kylee Gorngpratum had six aces, 20 assists and seven digs.
Berkeley Prep (19-6) at Academy of the Holy Names (15-12): Academy topped Avon Park in three sets in the quarterfinals in its attempt to advance to its first state final since 1977. Standing between Holy Names and a spot in the region final is Berkeley Prep, which lost to Academy in the District 10 championship. The Buccaneers are coming off a 25-18, 25-6 and 25-10 win over Lake Placid.
Bishop McLaughlin (18-6) at Tampa Prep (15-10): Senior Aileen Hnatiuk had 16 kills and San Diego State-commit Alyssa Mathis added 15 kills to lead Bishop McLaughlin past Winter Haven All Saints’ in the quarterfinals. Junior outside hitter Corey Perkins finished with a match-high 21 kills to lead Tampa Prep past Lakeland Christian. Tampa Prep won both regular-season meetings against Bishop McLaughlin.
Cambridge Christian (15-16) at Tampa Bay HEAT (19-3): Grace Nelson had 22 kills, Lauren Steinle added 20 kills, Veronica Hubbard had 22 digs and Katherine Dykes moved the ball with 70 set attempts to lead Cambridge past Bayshore Christian in the first round. Victoria Trueheart had 18 kills to lead the Tampa Bay HEAT in its first postseason victory over Keswick Christian in the quarterfinals. Tampa Bay HEAT has defeated Cambridge Christian three times this season, most recently in the District 7 championship.
