SEMINOLE — Tyrell Hubbard-Smith threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns to lead Gibbs to a victory against Seminole.
It was a slow start on offense for both teams, but Gibbs finally broke through late in the second quarter. Hubbard-Smith, a senior quarterback, scrambled and found a wide-open DaMardre Walls for a 35-yard touchdown pass right before halftime.
The Gladiators weren’t slowed by the break, either. After a Seminole punt pinned Gibbs on its own 1-yard line, Hubbard-Smith connected with Walls for a 99-yard touchdown down the middle to make it 13-0 early in the third quarter.
“It was open the whole game,” Walls said. “We were just baiting it up and it ended up happening. I got open.”
With the score still 13-0 early in the fourth, Hubbard-Smith led Gibbs on an 85-yard, six-play drive that culminated in an acrobatic 21-yard touchdown catch by Marquez Walls.
Seminole scored two late touchdowns to make things interesting, but Antonio Feacher fell on an onside kick to seal the game.
