Tribune All-Hillsborough Lacrosse Girls Team

Player of the Year

Veronica Cartaya, Tampa Catholic

Cartaya led the Crusaders to the second round of the state playoffs with a team-best 77 goals, 20 assists, 78 draw controls and 14 ground balls. She has scored more than 200 goals in her career at Tampa Catholic and will attend the U.S. Naval Academy.

Coach of the Year

Jayne Chapman, Plant

Plant went undefeated against Hillsborough County teams, including winning the district championship, to go 15-0 entering the state play-in game. The Panthers lost to Orlando Olympia to finish 15-1 overall. Chapman was also named Western Conference Coach of the Year by her peers.

First Team

Veronica Cartaya, Tampa Catholic, Sr., attacker: Led Crusaders with 77 goals and 20 assists en route to second round trip to state championships.

Taylor Zuberer, Plant, So., attacker: Underclassman helped Plant capture district title with 34 goals.

Jennifer Lanuto, Newsome, Sr., attacker: Senior was voted Western Conference Player of the Year.

Caroline King, Robinson, Sr., attacker: Led Knights with 43 goals and 19 assists.

Madison McGonnigal, Plant, So. midfield: Led Panthers in total points with team-best 37 goals and 24 assists, along with 25 takeways.

Sofia Emond, Plant, Jr., midfield: Virgnia Commonwealth commit had 30 goals and 12 assists for Panthers.

Erin Chadwick, Tampa Catholic, Sr., middle: University of Dallas commit had 39 goals, 17 assists and 28 ground balls.

Danielle Brickhaus, Newsome, Jr. defender. Strong defender was Western Conference first-team selection.

Lucy Craig, Plant, Sr., defender: 12 takeaways and three interceptions for Panthers squad that outscored opponents 250-73

Jenn Leahy, Tampa Catholic, Sr., defender: Berry College signee caused five turnovers, had six interceptions and was Crusaders’ top defender.

Erin Sjovall, Newsome, Sr., goalie: Named top goalie among public-school players as Western Conference first-team selection.

About The Team

The Tribune’s All-County Girls Lacrosse Team was selected by staff writers Scott Purks and Nick Williams based on regular- and postseason performances. The all-conference team selected by the coaches of the public schools was strongly considered.
