Hillsborough County's top prep football players

TAMPA — With the 2013 regular season set to begin this week, here is a list of the top players to watch in Hillsborough County by position.

(In Alphabetical Order)

Quarterbacks

Colby Brown, Plant, Sr.: Last year's backup threw for 346 yards in preseason classic against Tallahassee Godby.

Dwayne Lawson, Hillsborough High, Jr.: Threw for 1,459 yards with 12 TDs as a junior.

Chase Litton, Wharton, Sr.: Top-rated senior QB in Tampa area was county's top passer in 2012.

Alex McGough, Gaither, Sr.: Florida International commit threw 22 TDs last season.

Deiondre Porter, Jefferson, Sr.: Equally effective with his legs, South Florida commit threw 27 touchdowns in 2012.

Receivers

Alex Carswell, Strawberry Crest, Sr.: 6-foot-4 wide out an easy target for quarterbacks.

Derrick Ingram, Jefferson, Sr.: Division I prospect caught nine TDs last season.

Chett Levay, Sickles, Sr.: Florida International commit will be Gryphons' top target at tight end.

Marcus Mosely, Alonso, Sr.: Star recruit at 6-5 has major Division I potential.

Cameron Winter, Plant, Sr.: Plant's top returning receiver poised for breakout year.

Running Backs

Jeff Keil, Wharton, Sr.: Complemented Wharton's passing attack last season with 701 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 132 carries.

Ray Ray McCloud, Sickles, Jr.: Coming off breakout sophomore year in which he rushed for 1,319 yards and 13 TDs.

Kevin Newman, Jesuit, Jr.: Had 902 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.

Deon Thompson, Tampa Bay Tech, Sr.: Division I recruit is also a consistent option at receiver.

Ish Witter, Alonso, Sr.: College prospect is an agile runner with big play potential.

Offensive Line

Gary Brown, Alonso, Sr.: Major Division I recruit has more than a dozen offers.

Jake Fruhmorgen, Plant, Jr.: Could be top recruit in the county next year.

Corey Martinez, Tampa Catholic, Sr.: County's top overall recruit is committed to Florida State.

Montel McBride, Plant City, Sr.: Committed to two-time defending national champion Alabama.

Ray Raulerson, Plant, Sr.: Senior leader committed to University of Tennessee.

Defensive Line

Josh Black, Sickles, Sr.: Finished with team-high seven sacks in 2012.

Bryon Cowart, Armwood, Jr.: Future top prospect already has interest from Florida and Alabama.

Sedrick King, Plant City, Sr.: Central Florida commit can cover a lot of ground.

Scott Patchan, Freedom, Jr.: Division I recruit is aggressive and fast off the edge.

Dontriel Perry, Durant, Sr.: At 6-4, 250 pounds, was a valuable playmaker for the Cougars last season, finishing with 53 tackles and seven sacks.

Linebacker

Andrew Beck, Plant, Sr.: University of Texas commit can deliver a big hit.

Juwuan Brown, Jefferson, Sr.: South Florida-commit leads Dragons defense.

Anthony Davis, Chamberlain, Sr.: Chiefs' top recruit is center of the defense.

Vincent Jackson Jr. Jesuit, Sr.: Top prospect has more than 20 college suitors.

Tre Watson, Tampa Catholic, Sr.: Division I recruit had 161 tackles last season.

Defensive Back

Tajee Fullwood, Tampa Bay Tech, Sr.: At 6-2, USF commit has considerable length advantage.

Kyle Gibson, Armwood, Sr.: Four-star safety is verbally committed to Vanderbilt.

Austin Hudson, Plant, Sr: Wisconsin-commit missed nearly all of 2012 with groin injury.

Amani Oruwariye, Gaither, Sr.: Leader of unit that totaled 162 tackles and seven interceptions last season.

Mazzi Wilkins, Plant, Sr.: USF commit provides presence in pass defense.

Athlete

Deon Cain, Tampa Bay Tech, Jr.: South Florida likes him as a QB, Florida State as a receiver.

London Galloway, Plant City, Sr.: UCF commit is QB this season, but will play WR or TE in college.

Jimmy Golden, Gaither, Sr.: Plays tight end, linebacker, running back, special teams and on both the offensive and defensive lines.

TJ Harrell, Tampa Catholic, Sr: Top-rated recruit can play running back, linebacker and in the secondary.

Donnell Taylor, King, Sr.: Will see time at quarterback, running back and return man and will also start at cornerback.

Kicker/Punter

Sterling Hoffrichter, Armwood, Jr.: With Nick Feely as the starter, was used on JV last season, but will be a difference maker for Hawks in 2013.

Austin Iglehart, Berkeley Prep, Sr.: Efficient kicker made six of eight field goals and 23 of 25 extra points in 2012.

Lucas Jose, Bloomingdale, Sr.: Six touchbacks last season along with 89 percent accuracy on PATs.

Brandon Stage, Riverview, Sr.: 6-1 kicker gives Sharks a weapon on special teams.

Rhett Waldron, Jesuit, Sr.: Had 38 kickoffs for 1,891 yards with three touchbacks in 2012.
