First Team

Vignesh Bethanabotla, King, sophomore: Lions’ No. 1 led team to third straight state tournament.

Sam Chaffin, Wharton, senior: District champion was No. 1 overall seed in 4A state singles tournament.

Palmer Evans, Jesuit, junior: Led Tigers through tough regular-season schedule to make fourth straight trip to state.

Stephen Goldman, Gaither, senior: Four-star recruit was 11-1 during the regular season.

Jon Heindenburg, Freedom, senior: SMU signee became school’s first male to reach state tournament.

Alec Josepher, Plant, senior: Panthers’ No. 1 helped team reach region final.

Michael Marinskiy, Robinson, sophomore: Two-star underclassman was first team All-Western Conference selection.

Athlete of the Year

Sam Chaffin, Wharton: Chaffin was a district champion at No. 1 singles and doubles to advance to the 4A individual state tournament, where he was listed as the overall No. 1 singles seed. He lost in a three-set battle in the singles semifinal round.

Coach of the Year

Joe Curtis, Jesuit: Despite graduating its top three singles players from last year’s third-place team at state, Jesuit made its fourth straight state tourney appearance. The Tigers also won their 20th district title under Curtis.

About the team

The Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County Boys Tennis Team was selected by staff writers Scott Purks and Nick Williams based on regular-season and postseason performances. The all-conference team selected by the county’s coaches was also strongly considered.
