PLANT CITY — Last November, Durant rolled to a 34-7 victory when the Cougars hosted Tampa Bay Tech in a first-round playoff game. The stakes weren’t as high in their lightning-delayed rematch Thursday night, but the Titans found ample satisfaction as they left the same field with a triumph.
Tech quarterback Deon Cain led the charge from start to finish, running for a touchdown early in the game and again in its final moments. In between, the junior hooked up with Deon Thompson on a 54-yard scoring play late in the third quarter.
Early in the third, Thompson put Tech (1-1) ahead for good on a scoring run from 2 yards. He finished with 86 rushing yards.
Cain, meanwhile, compiled 261 passing yards and 93 more on the ground.
Durant, coming off its first undefeated regular season, suddenly is winless through three games.
The Cougars were led offensively by John Hendricks, whose team-high 66 rushing yards included a burst through the line at midfield that gave his team a short-lived 7-6 lead with 3:35 left in the first quarter.
