Caelen Watts, Lennard
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: The senior guard scored 25 points in the Longhorns’ 73-69 win over Jefferson to win the Class 6A-District 9 championship, the first district title in program history. The win secured home-court advantage for the Longhorns for the region quarterfinal, and Watts, the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,547 career points, is the team’s leading scorer with 18.7 points per game.
COLLEGE PLANS: Watts has interest from Division I programs such as Grambling, Toledo and Savannah State.
Kristin Hoover, Berkeley Prep
WHY WE CHOSE HER: The senior hit .667 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 12 plate appearance en route to leading the Buccaneers to three wins. Hoover, last year’s Hillsborough County Class 4A Player of the Year, was intentionally walked three times.
COLLEGE PLANS: Hoover has signed to play at the University of California.
